The new Nove Colli routes: better racing conditions and the same charm

The 2023 edition of the Granfondo brings with it many innovations regarding the routes

The 2023 Nove Colli will bring with it great news for what is the oldest Granfondo in the cycling panorama, and it does so in one of its strengths: the suggestive route. The organizing committee has developed some changes to the route to further improve the usability and safety of the race while keeping the charm and demand of the race intact. The changes will affect both the "long" and the "medium" routes but the news does not end here and in the coming weeks new opportunities will be announced for all cyclists who love the Nove Colli.

The changes of the long route

The new look of the “long” route foresees a total of 194km with 3880 meters of climbing. Much of the road that the participants will use will be the traditional route, but at the end of the race we will see many new features. The first is after the Barbotto climb with the "new" descent to the Ville di Montetiffi that will bring the riders in front of a group of houses, from where you can see the Benedictine Abbey in the distance at the top of the Montetiffi climb that then reaches Perticara. The most substantial change, however, comes at the last climb that will no longer be Gorolo, replaced by the Sogliano climb and the consequent descent of Cioca: 4km of effort with uphill sections at 10% and then down to the Cioca with 18 hairpin bends on one of the most beautiful roads in Romagna. The final will also see substantial changes to improve the road to Cesenatico in view of the finish line. The riders will descend downstream towards Fiumicino avoiding the forced closure of the "Valle del Rubicone" tollbooth and following the historic river to the gates of Cesenatico. This will make the race management easier, decreasing the inconvenience of the event for locals and increasing the safety of the participants.

Changes to the medium route

There is also great news for all the participants of the "medium" route. After the ascent of the Barbotto, the riders will face the new descent to Ville di Montetiffi enjoying one of the best views of the entire course. At the end of this stretch, the "famous" gate will be positioned: at kilometer 95.5 you will find the crossroads between the two routes and whoever wants to venture into the "long" one must reach that point by 11:45AM. The approach to Cesenatico will also be new, obviously following that of the "long" route with the descent of the Cioca: the riders will descend to the valley towards Fiumicino avoiding the closure of the "Valle del Rubicone" tollbooth and following the historic river.
