Valverde: “Nove Colli? A WorldTour Classic with the heart of the fans”

Alejandro Valverde needs no introduction, but at Nove Colli he discovered something new—even for a champion of his caliber: a unique mix of passion, challenge, and flawless organization. Between demanding climbs, breathtaking landscapes, and the support of thousands of riders and fans, the Spanish legend shares what it truly means to experience Italy’s most iconic granfondo from the inside. And his verdict is clear: “It’s a spectacle I would gladly do again.”

How exciting is it to ride the Nove Colli alongside so many cyclists?
Riding alongside so many cyclists and fans, people who have supported you for years, it was a pleasure and an honor. It’s a gran fondo, but the way the course is closed and how well everything is organized is truly impressive.

Did you face any difficulties last year?
The level of the event is very high; there are riders who go really fast. I had some difficult moments, but what stands out the most is precisely that level: very well-prepared participants. Even so, it’s incredibly enjoyable.

Did the landscapes stay in your heart?
The landscapes are spectacular: rolling hills and beautiful scenery that make you want to come back and experience it again.

What was the best dish you had during your days in Cesenatico?
The food is excellent: pasta and risotto are outstanding. They’re perfect for an athlete, and when they’re prepared as well as they are in Cesenatico, they become a real delight.

If you had to compare the Nove Colli to a professional race, which one would it be?
It would be like a very tough classic, at the level of a World Tour race: long and demanding, with consecutive climbs, even if they’re not extremely long. There are nine hills, some with really steep gradients.
I would definitely do it again—it’s an incredible experience.

Finally, I’d like to thank all the fans that accompanied me in this experience!
